It is often said that if we could revisit the famous 1855 Classification of Grands Crus Classés, Château Léoville Las Cases would certainly be upgraded to the rank of Premier Grand Cru. Knowing that it has regularly been among the Medoc Grands Crus Classés for the past fifty years, we can easily understand the magic that surrounds these wines.
The strength of the Château lies in the famous Clos with its complex terroir and diverse as well as complementary parcels. In fact, the Grand Vin is made exclusively from this terroir, which in some ways evokes the Latour terroir, a neighbouring estate. Depending on the vintage, it offers up aromas that are straightforward and suggestive of Pauillac or tender and lacy aromas that are more reminiscent of Saint-Julien.
Of course, Bollinger is the Champagne served by James Bond to make all those Bond Girls swoon. Indeed, for over 40 years, Bollinger has been 007’s Champagne of choice on the silver screen, the key to his sparkling allure with the ladies. We can easily understand why after enjoying just one taste of any cuvée from this great Champagne winery whose style is often traditional, a style referred to as English, as they say in the business.
A bouquet that always appears regal, elegant, often revealing a refined rancio character and notes of brioche that English critics have historically enjoyed. The palate commonly offers a delightful blend of richness, tension and refinement which adds even greater distinction while its creamy aspect confers a lethal charm.
As it happens, the Bollinger tasting will also mark the opening of the 16th edition of Montréal Passion Vin. This is a must-attend event!
